Summary - Why HackerFab @ IITB, Priorities, Preliminary Goals, Tasks for the week - Pitch Deck, contacting and finalising Litho specs.
Why HackerFab @ IITB?
- Developing India’s Semiconductor Mission so far has been a largely top down approach from the academia and industry - the bottom up ecosystem still needs to be developed to bridge the gaps. This has manifested as:
- Low exposure to semiconductor technology at a UG level.
- Low accessibility due to prohibhitively high cost.
- Lack of a direct talent pipeline.
- Not enough “culture” of curiosity, interest and excitement around semiconductor technology.
- Lack of an interdisciplinary semiconductor focus on students from departments such as Material Sciences, Mechanical and Chemical.
How do we solve this?
- Create awareness, provide exposure, accessibility and hands on learning.
- Create a culture of enthusiasm around semiconductor technology via visibility, access and aspirational value.
- Create a direct talent pipeline of trained and experienced individuals into the industry.
- Create a space for students of a varied set of backgrounds to come together on semiconductor technology.
- Support rapid prototyping of designs - a pain point in status quo.
- Become the first of its kind in Asia, join a group of elite institutions in an open source community to learn from, contribute to and grow.
- Follow CMU’s model and create a UG Nanofabrication Lab, to enable direct hands on learning.
Priorities
- Pitch Deck - What are the problems? How do we solve them? Complete specs, BOM and plan of Litho Machine that will directly and quickly be implemented.
- Facad- Most likely Prof. Anil. Qualities we look for - Contacts, Non-interfering, Subject Matter Knowledge
